About

In 2018, ESS clubs decided to invest in digital technology, which led to Speedway Play. All Elite Series matches are produced and transmitted using this technology. The objective was to improve the league’s visibility and increase commercial interest for Sweden’s third most popular sport. The clubs learned a lot in the first year of the project and are now extending their digital offer under the new ESS Play service.

Contents

Viewers can easily follow their favourite team or rider with ESS Play. Those who cannot attend a match when the team is riding, at an away match for example, can see the match easily and in total comfort instead in HD wherever they are, via a computer, mobile phone or tablet.

In the 2019 Elite Series, all 82 matches are going to be transmitted with graphics and commentating. Four matches per round are produced with a camera and each Thursday, one match is covered as “The Week’s Main Event” and is upgraded with several camera angles. Sweden-based StayLive is behind the new video player. From their app, you can get push notifications to easily follow your favourite team.

Part of a larger investment

The new investment also includes a complete redesign of elitspeedway.com where, in addition to the Play channel’s current moving image material, editorial content and news will be published. This means not only that fans and commercial partners get more added value as the league has wider visibility than before, but that the clubs are working in greater symbiosis.

From season 2019 onwards, the Elite Series will have a two-matchday per week format, and the league has also been extended to nine teams. This means more speedway more often for the fans. With venue commentators at the oval tracks, the transmissions will be more flexible and vivid. This gives delighted speedway fans, riders and experts a slot in which to express themselves - and perhaps even become some of the league’s new voices?
